62.14 mi in 05:00:00 hours at 12.43 mi/h on KHS Team ST. [Cycling] Convict 100. After our traditional night on the drink before the race, the head was bleary but the body felt good. Made the start line in good time, missing the 1st wave but was interviewed by the MC while waiting to go off with the 2nd. Usual hell for leather start which the 1st hill soon took care of. On the Convict single track & I had my 1st cramp. Soon after I had overtaken all riders in our contingent & was looking at a great time. No dramas through the rest of the single track & down to the canoe crossing where I stopped to lube chain & eat some solids. Full of confidence for the crossing but the bridge moved from my course about half way across & I went for a most humiliating swim. Lost about 10min getting out & getting my shit together. The 2nd climb was no shorter with familiarity & my legs were constantly on the verge of cramping up. Finally crested &* took the right turn for the descent. Threw caution to the wind to make up some time. The road after the 2nd creek crossing seemed shorter than I remembered & I was soon crossing the finish line with a final Garmin time of 4hr 59min 20sec. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn it off & the ride back to camp nudged me over 5hr. A great ride, really happy with my time but there is still room for improvement. |

Gonna smash the C100. |
