Im really love cycling and Im worried about my skin because its getting dry and getting dark. I have found a better solution that would help us protect our skin especially those who love sports. Protect your skin from the heat of the sun. http://www.liquidsun-europe.com/

Eat Hot chips. If you ride enough the calories do you no harm. The salt is just great to avoid cramps. The carbs are just what you need for fuel. Wash down with some beer. Beer will also help the affected muscles relax, and may assist in a passivated mind, better sleep, ergo, better riding the next day |

The etiology of muscular cramping is not clear...studies have examined the contribution of abnormalities in blood electrolytes with no clear answers. Some folks will cramp with totally normal serum electrolytes, and some will not cramp with severely abnormal electrolytes! Muscle relaxation is actually an active process...probably the muscle fibers have exceeded the threshold where sufficient energy for the relaxation process is now lacking. Passive stretching of the affected muscles coupled with decreased demand (e.g. smaller gear) is probably your best bet. |

Sorry about my bad english.
I think i read that kdietz said the distance was only one mile. And mostly uphill. So my guess is, too much efford on the cold, without warmup, and since it's a beginner...
in one mile ride, the muscles aren't working yet as they should, and it's NOT GOOD idea to force them.

There are many different oils available on the supermarket shelf. One popular option is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The “Extra” indicates that it is the highest quality of any olive oil. EVOO is also the highest quality of any oil available today. It is proven that in countries where olive oil is used generously, primarily in the place of other fats, there is a much lower rate of diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart disease, colon cancer and asthma. Extra Virgin Olive Oil also contains
Vitamin-E, which protects Vitamin A as well as essential fatty acids from oxidation in the body’s cells, and also prevents the breakdown of tissues in the body. One of the best Sicilian Olive Oil available in Italy is probably “Olio Cuscinà” Made
by the Farm “Maria Layla Fatta” near Palermo, in Sicily!

I found this website that covers cramping pretty well: http://www.roadbikerider.com/cramps.htm. It looks like there are many different causes and thus no single solution, but my guess is kdietz over-taxed their muscles. I'm an experienced cyclist, but anytime I work significantly harder that what I'm used to, I'm likely to cramp.
I don't know if others have found this to be true, but usually if I feel a cramp coming on, I'll back off the work effort (gear down, slow down), but keep moving my legs to avoid a harder cramp. Getting off the bike often leads to a larger, deeper cramp, whereas backing off the effort and keeping moving allows the cramp to subside. |

I learned my lesson.....After eating and going for a ride. Ended up with a throw up and extreme bad gas cramps and shoulder piercing pain. Well, won't do that again. I leave at least 4hours now. Live and learn. Speaking of heat. I notice I have more cramps in cold. But I guess every one is different. But the heat problem just might be dehydration like you mentioned....but I wounder if it's also a lost of minerals through sweat?
Hey and if you use E-gels they have Cal/mag combo built in to them. Check it out |

Thought I'd add my 2 cents worth-based on some personal experience. THe responses thus far have been good and worth some attention as well.
1. Try taking some Cal/Mag tablets - I get some severe calf/thigh cramps on occasion- particularly during the warmer months and underhydration. They work well.
2. The other more recent experience that I had was doing a modest ride right after a reasonable evening meal. The next morning I felt as though I'd been hit by a truck- I wasn't ill with the flu but had cramps & pain all over my body. THe only thing I could attribute the lousy feeling was exercising right after eating. It was likely due with lactic acid or toxin buildup in my muscles coupled with trying to digest a meal while exercising... a bad, for me anyway, combination. |

Daft as it sounds, but have you made sure you are using the gears to your advantage?
Big cog at the back to small cog at front when going up hill? |
