Sun, May 6, 2012 - 45.86 mi [Cycling] |

45.86 mi in 04:14:00 hours at 10.83 mi/h on Scott Spark 10. [Cycling] Early start & a cold foggy start for the Convict 100 with about 800 others, I started in the third wave and it was a good pace until the walking climb, got to the top and had a good group riding along ata good pace, passed one guy who had flown off a water bar and crashed and then at the 30km mark another guy had crashed real bad, I then became a bit more cautious, lots of ups and downs with some gnarly rocky descents where I walked a few, got to the 50km mark and felt OK but then it got harder with lots of rocky ups and downs, managed to survive and get to the canoe bridge onlt to find a huge lineup waiting to cross as a rider had stacked it there as well, got going only to fall off at the end of the bridge hitting the last canoe and headplanting the sand, quite a lot of pain but i could feel all my fingers and toes so off I went gingerly until the turn to the big last climb, I was very sore in my neck / lower back so I turned around and went to the RFS point and asked for medical assistance, a Flight Paramedic arrived and suggested I DON"T MOVE so I knew something was amiss, 20ml of morphine did nothing and 1 hr later anothe 10ml of morphine started to ease the pain, the paramedic thought a trip to the hospital would be a good idea and he was not getting any arguments from me, due to the distance from the nearest hospital the rescue helicopter was summoned, a 15 min flight and I was getting all my kit cut off for a CT scan and x-rays which revealed a small fracture to T6 away from the vertebrae. I was informed this morning whilst still at the Royal North Shore Hospital by the spinal specialist that I was very close to becoming a quadraplegic so someone was looking after me. 2 weeks in a neck brace and then a good look at when I will gingerly return to the bike. Not sure how the rest got on but thanks to Col for picking me up from hospital and getting me home and then unpacking my car. |

[Cycling] Met MG for the weekly Night Lap of the Love Track, with about 8,000 lumens between us the night became day, not many out and quite a few times we had to dip all lights so oncoming traffic was not melted. Great quick ride which will be a weekly event.Wildlife count, 2 possums, 2 owls and 4 rabbits. |

29.14 mi in 01:44:00 hours at 16.81 mi/h on Argon 18 Krypton. [Cycling] Mid morning ride with Queen Toasted down the Love Track to Belmont Swansea and return, great weather without any wind. Toasted got stung by something near top of Scum Rises so a halt was called, small welt but obviously painful even though the Queen did not cuss at all. Great easy spin. |
