27.98 mi in 01:22:58 hours at 20.23 mi/h on Trek 1500. [Cycling] RSA Thursday ride. I did not have a good night tonight. I think I'm still paying for staying up all night Tues night (2 hrs sleep). I think I was water-bonking a bit tonight, too. I got over-heated early and never really got it back under control. There were three really strong riders tonight. Me and one other could not stay with them after about the 20 mile point. Humble pie. My GPS shut down a couple of times, too. So, there are a couple of teleports around 19 miles or so. I hate when that happens.
28.00 mi in 01:22:00 hours at 20.49 mi/h on Trek 1500. [Cycling] RSA Tues ride. I forgot my computer - never done that before. So, this is a manual entry. I went solo for half or more of this ride. I wanted to hit the NASA test stand hill - others skipped it. I did not catch back up with the group until the river.
70.49 mi in 03:45:20 hours at 18.77 mi/h on Trek 1500. [Cycling] Solo long ride, today - 70 mi at about 19 mph. None of the LCC folks could make it, today. The north wind was more than I thought it would be. Winds N 6-8 mph, Temps low 70s F. It rained on me the first hour and a half - mostly misty or light, but a bit heavier when I was on County Line Road north of I-565. I registered 18.8 mph, but I had been holding 19 even until some slow-go through a park in Athens due to road construction. A leaky rear tire didn't help with either - I'm sure. Also, when I got to the square in Athens, I remembered they were having an art event where my daughter would be serving refreshments. I rode slow around there for a bit looking for her, but never found her in the crowd. When I realized no one else was showing up, I set out to go Lindsay Lane south and go right on Huntsville Brownsferry and go down around the Saginaw plant that way. But when I got to the south end of Lindsay Lane, I saw I could not go right because the road is closed - new I-65 interchange being built, I think. So, I headed east from there toward Madison. At County Line Rd, I headed south. That was the only part of this route that was not so good. It is pretty busy. However, it is four lane and I did not really have any major trouble. I kept going as far south as possible. I hit one dead end and had to re-trace a bit - no big deal. I ended up on part of the Intergraph Tuesday evening ride route. But, I kept coming north on Swanson to hit the Chevron by I-565 for liquids. From there, I went around the Saginaw plan and came north on Lucas Ferry into Athens and then home. This was a pretty decent ride. I apparently have a slow leak in my rear tire. I had to stop near the Saginaw plant and again on Lucas Ferry near Hwy 72 to pump it up. I decided to nurse it home rather than change it out on the road. I really like my new Topeak Morph frame pump. I was able to pump up to about 130 psi pretty readily. I don't like having to carry the weight, but I've come to the conclusion I like it better than the CO2 solutions I've tried.
20.37 mi in 01:01:11 hours at 19.98 mi/h on Trek 1500. [Cycling] Solo 20@20 on a 5 mile loop. I did not get to do my normal Thurs evening ride on RSA due to schedule, so I rode near home. It was windy - winds SE 12 mph with gusts to 20 mph. Temps were in the low 80s F. I think I would have gone faster going the other way around this loop with a SE wind - due to the position of some trees and hills along the way. The wind was strong enough that it was piling up and even forming a backdraft near the trees on the right near the north end of Meadows Rd. The wind really got into my head today and slowed me down, I think. I was in a bad mood and feeling wiped out prior to riding. I knew if I did not ride, I'd feel down about it. So, I had to make myself ride today. After riding and showering, I felt so much better. It pays to do as Nike says. Just do it!
36.40 mi in 01:43:50 hours at 21.03 mi/h on Trek 1500. [Cycling] Intergraph Tuesday ride. I rode with the fast group. At about 13 miles, we caught up with a few other riders. It was my turn to take front. After I took front and passed the few slower riders, I jumped it up. After a bit, I noticed only one rider on my wheel and others a good distance back. I don't know why they took it easy there. Anyway, me and the other rider with me began working together to keep the gap. A group of three riders got back within a quarter mile of us at one point, but never caught us - I think they cut it short by not going around the airport on the way back. I was a bit out of my league with this other rider - he was obviously stronger. I told him to ride on, but he said he did not want to do it alone. I was able to draft him up a couple of hills and give him occasional rest, but he pulled the bulk of it. He pulled away at one point, but he let me re-join. I pulled a bit more toward the end, but finished weak. It was a good ride for me, though. My GPS shut down a couple of times on this ride, but I caught it quickly so teleports will be minor - one instance a few minutes into the ride and another at about 45 minutes.
