16.42 mi in 01:15:46 hours at 13.00 mi/h on Trek 1600. [Cycling] Rear tire with replacement tube feels squishy. It's not hard like the original. Doesn't feel right. Might be last time riding interurban by my house. It's ghetto and too isolated/low traffic. Thought I was going to have to pepper spray some delinquents.
First ride since RSVP. Difficult and took some time to warm up. |

75.84 mi in 05:16:24 hours at 14.38 mi/h on Trek 1600. [Cycling] Day 2 started with a...flat tire. Thanks to Jerry for the quick tire change, and we were off to the USA/Canadian border about 30 mins behind schedule. The border crossing was surprisingly uneventful, and we were dreading the 10X harder climbs (according to Kevin) into Vancouver.
Luckily, the Wall turned out to be a mini-10% grade hill that was steep but short, and we were half-way to the finish before we knew it. We left the last food stop as a group and actually rode together for a good long while as a group. We hooked onto a 20 person pace line and ripped a good 17mph pace along the highway before the last major 4.8 mile climb.
It wasn't as bad as Kevin remembered, and the 2nd day was actually pretty easy compared to day 1. RSVP is over and done with! |

109.87 mi in 07:35:15 hours at 14.48 mi/h on Trek 1600. [Cycling] Too much adrenaline to sleep! The day had finally arrived, and I'm as ready as I'll ever be. The start was great, as I got to thoroughly warm up my legs on the 45th hill at a slow pace while following a large pack. I had done the Woodenville hill a couple of weeks ago, so I knew once that was over I only had to worry about Chuckanut.
The long flats around Mt. Vernon were horrendous. The pavement was rough and there was a mighty headwind. After this long slog, I was actually looking forward to the rollers on Chuckanut.
Once Chuckanut started, I knew I was going to have to dig deep. I was trying to avoid the granny gear as much as possible, and was successful for the most part. It was such a relief to finally reach the top of Chuckanut and the lemonade stand. |
