37.83 mi in 02:16:00 hours at 16.69 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#27-Barwon Heads loop. Southerly today so pushed me up Horseshoe but would have to ride against it on the way home.....bit overcast when I left but cleared and was sunny at the end. Passed a recumbenteer on a Greenspeed with Windwrap fairing and lots of lights, he was going at a slow bur steady rate so said "hello" and a little banter then onwards to 13th Beach - started chatting to a chap about everything.,..surf, kayaking, cycling, he used to live in Holland until 18 months ago to live in Ocean Grove where he grew up. Feeling a little weary leaving 13th Beach and the road seems uphill which ever way you go, thinks it's the coarse chip bitumen, then hit headwinds as I turned south, ouchy.... Torquay busy as usual on a sunny day, people not looking what they are doing or paying attention, tsk tsk tsk.... Then right at the end of my ride in Jan Juc a girl is more worried about her text message than crossing the road safely ?? A contender for this year's Darwin Award ? |

Been a bad cycling week, no rides....either rain in the mornings or having to be somewhere after work or feeling like poo ! Felt really crap at work on Friday, slept really badly overnight and got woken up 3 times...so bailed on the 8am ride with the boys - went out on my own at 1pm and just rode..... The end of a 90km ride, went for a speed run - Vortex seat up high as it's in commuter mode with rack and rear mudguard fitted.....still managed a respectable 70.5kph Vmax.... |

Mad weather all this week, lots of blustery wind and rain, so a window in the weather so thought I head out....strong Easterly wind, gusty as well....the Easterly gave me a nice push towards Breamlea and 13th Beach, once I got to Barwon Heads it was a headwind.....bit tough going in the open exposed roads but not bad all in all......one dickhead overshooting a corner whilst turning off the main road came onto my side of Lake road by over 3 feet....I saluted him.....good cruise back to Torquay and Juc, nice 28 kph average.... |

44.89 mi in 03:00:31 hours at 14.92 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#24-Commute#10- with Weekesy. Chilly morning, Paul Weekes riding to work today with me. Still dark at 6.30am now.... Bit cold at the start but after 15 minutes nicely warmed up, a bit too warm in Gore jacket and leggings.... Really nice morning !! Got to work in 1hr21min so good run and not going hard at all....Weekesy had a derail in Geetown but soon fixed. Very overcast at 4.30pm with threat of rain but good, Weekesy feeling really empty with no energy, so took it really easy thru Geetown but at Balwarre Road he was broken, had to give him my emergency gel and cereal bar, really really gentle ride home from there, never been so slow ;-) At Torquay had to stop at the Bakery for more fuel for Weekesy, excellent speedy run on the Torquay main road thru the roundabout :-))) |

39.63 mi in 02:19:59 hours at 16.99 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#23 - Barwon Heads with Slim - detour to 13th Beach Clubhouse. It's going to be hot today, so a good start - meet Slim at 8.25 at Blackgate/Horseshoebend - then onwards to 13th Beach - NE'ly wind so tough in places but will get a push home....at the end.... Good run along 13th Beach - lots of surfers out and the offshore breeze had the surf look good..... Good drivers.... Dropped thru Barwon Heads and headed to the 13th Beach Golf Clubhouse (Slim's other passion is golf) and had some iced water.... continued onto Lake Road and then to Boundary, Slim went home (Rotary BBQ planned at high noon) - I turned south along Horseshoebend.... Now I had a tailwind so some good speed - a guy on a TT bike caught me but stayed with him all the way to Torquay where he turned off the Esplanade, a very nice fancy bike, not sure what it was..... Guzzled 2.25litres of water.....lots more when I got home ! |
