37.83 mi in 02:16:00 hours at 16.69 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#27-Barwon Heads loop. Southerly today so pushed me up Horseshoe but would have to ride against it on the way home.....bit overcast when I left but cleared and was sunny at the end. Passed a recumbenteer on a Greenspeed with Windwrap fairing and lots of lights, he was going at a slow bur steady rate so said "hello" and a little banter then onwards to 13th Beach - started chatting to a chap about everything.,..surf, kayaking, cycling, he used to live in Holland until 18 months ago to live in Ocean Grove where he grew up. Feeling a little weary leaving 13th Beach and the road seems uphill which ever way you go, thinks it's the coarse chip bitumen, then hit headwinds as I turned south, ouchy.... Torquay busy as usual on a sunny day, people not looking what they are doing or paying attention, tsk tsk tsk.... Then right at the end of my ride in Jan Juc a girl is more worried about her text message than crossing the road safely ?? A contender for this year's Darwin Award ? |

37.02 mi in 02:16:00 hours at 16.33 mi/h on Catbike Musashi. [Cycling] Musashi#20-Tailsock fitted-ride to B Heads-20kph E'ly
Nice ride into banging 20 kph Easterly headwind with VeloRossi - it's been a while since the Musashi has been for a ride, now it has a Windsock fitted on the back (needs tweaking) so a bit of a test run..... The ride into Torquay was fun as there is a cycling event on to Lorne so best to avoid the Esplanade......rode out on the highway for a bit and soon lost my Musashi nervousness and anxiety !! Met up with Rossi and we went to B Heads for coffee, banging into big head wind all the way, felt worse than 20 kph......the run back on B Heads Rd was nice, clicking along at 36 - 40 kph.....tailwind......and then hit 50 kph and cruised at 45 kph on Lake Rd...... Nothing fell off the Moose, need to extend the boom some, need to get a battery for the cadence sensor, need to move the coroplast bulkhead up 10cm......will ride again tomorrow after tweaking ! |

31.45 mi in 01:48:00 hours at 17.47 mi/h on Sinner Mango Sport Red Edition. [Cycling] Mango#22-quick ride to see VeloRossi in Geetown, traffic lights arrrggghhhhh !!!!!!
Thought I'd go and see Rossi and get a cuppa......damn traffic lights slowed me down on the way in/out of Belmont. Riding in the dusk/darkness for the first time in the Mango was fun.... Need to track down some funny noises, or could it just be the crappy Victorian roads ? |

91.70 mi in 05:09:00 hours at 17.80 mi/h on Sinner Mango Sport Red Edition. [Cycling] Mango#21-Blackgate Saunter with VeloRossi & JP-30kph NW'ly
A big day.....I did this Audax event last year on the Vortex and it was fun so thought I'd have a go again this year in the Mango....it's been 5 weeks since surgery so I have been told to put no strain on my back so spinning was the order of the day and no stomping on hills :-( I also had to ride to and from the event so that added an extra 47km on top of the 100 for the event (and the bigish hills in Juc). Good start at 9am (the 150km group started at 8am, the 50km group at 8.45am) and it soon turned out to be a bit of a dash at the start and was flying.....then got into a steady rhythm....JP & VeloRossi had had their Weetbix they were flying too...... First CP at 32km at Moriac, and he had a lazy coffee......then an almost sprint back for lunch - 20km back to the start for excellent pumpkin soup, bread, fruit..... Then the squirt to Ocean Grove......25km each way.....great views and surf at The Dunes in Ocean Grove......we had another lazy coffee...... The return to the finish/start was banging into a 30kph NW'ly so we were all feeling it......JP dropped right back but munched some gels and came charging back at the end and caught me......VeloRossi was only a minute behind us..... Toasted cheese & ham sandwiches at the end and tea !! Then had to ride home with a big sidewind and headwind at the end..... Lots of people interested in the Mango (as always).....and feel ok, back a little stiff, tomorrow will tell !! |
