55.31 mi in 03:31:45 hours at 15.67 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#38-Moriac loop to Barwon Heads

Really gray overcast day, threatening to rain all morning but nothing by 12.30pm so headed out....the start is big hills from Jan Juc to Bells, slow but steady.....the coarse chip really sucked the speed off me......the first 70km really good but getting heavy legs into the Westerly headwind - thought I'd try my emergency gel.....helped a little bit......my average really dropped in the last 20km.....need to turn my tyres !

Sat, May 5, 2012 - 36.27 mi [Cycling] Details
36.27 mi in 02:11:00 hours at 16.61 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Not been on the bike for almost 2 weeks....dark wintery nights, lots of rain, busy last weekend, excuses excuses..... Really grim looking overhead but not raining so thought I'd head out (you can always turn around if it starts pissing down). The usual numpty driver's less than 4km from setting off a stupid/challenged/confused driver stops on the roundabout into Torquay....wtf ? then hurls abuse at me as i pass him because he is stationary ?? Aussie drivers are hopeless.... So not a good start to a ride !! The usual danger point of the Esplanade is good, I guess the cold windy gray skies are keeping people at home.... Good run up Horseshoebend then a nice speedy run down to Lake Rd and onto Barwon Heads. Quick stop at 13th to swap water bottles over.....at the end of 13th Beach Rd there is a track marked on maps but it's never been accessible, well there's been a rumour that it was going to become a cyclepath, well the rumour has come true and now it is a ribbon of the smoothest asphalt in
Vortex#37-Lake Rd-Barwon Heads-new path 13th Beach to Breamlee-home

Australia.....luverly ;-) Shame about the headwind but you cannot have everything !! Feeling a little weary for the final few kays but otherwise a good ride !! The new Dinotte 400R rear light is awesome even on the lowest setting it is very bright in daylight....I am certain someone will still say "I cannot see you mate !"
Sun, Apr 22, 2012 - 64.80 mi [Cycling] Details
64.80 mi in 04:35:22 hours at 14.12 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#36-South GA 100km Sunday ride with the Geelong Touring Cyclist group....6 of us on a nice gently ride with Werribee, strong NW'ly headwind on the way out, bit faster on the way back. Bob had a tumble as he drifted onto the gravelly verge and then as he tried to get back on the seal road he came off....nasty road rash on his left forearm and left leg, gloves protected his hands....bike looked OK, levers knocked, puncture on the front ut we fixed that in 5 mins...chain off, no obvious damage to Bob's shoulder, he only had a little way to get home (Lara) and he rode that bit OK but he will feel like he's been run over tomorrow no doubt....nice gouge in hs left forearm :-( We continued back to Geetown and a few spots of rain started to fall but we missed it :-) Good day ! Nice toasted Ciabatta in Werribee and good English Breakfast tea :-)eelong - Werribee - South Geelong.
Sat, Apr 21, 2012 - 53.08 mi [Cycling] Details
53.08 mi in 02:55:58 hours at 18.10 mi/h on Catbike Musashi. [Cycling] Musashi#16-Barwon Heads-Ocean Grove-Geelong-Home. Saturday morning ride with the crew from work - 7.30am start, thought it would be could as it was misty but quite warm....leggings too much....met at Blackgate Rd - really gentle cruise upto 13th Beach Rd, then the usual squirt along there fast and into Barwon Heads for a cup of tea....free chocolate muffin ;-) Then left and went to Ocean Grove along Grubb Rd to Portarlington Rd and into Geelong - Ash seemed to be struggling a bit and lagged behind. I lost the guys near Geelong after dropping the back wheel into a pot-hole (busy watching old git in a car edging out of sideroad) - big bang and gears mis-shifted a bit....then couldn't get low gears 1 - 5....struggled on a bit then stopped to have a look, cable still there so rode on for a bit and got lost in the surburbs of Geetown so headed to Breakwater direction.....got out of Geelong and then stopped and found that the rear gear cable had slipped in it's clamp so not pulling the derailleur properly, quickly fixed.... the chain popped off the front chainring twice when shifting from mid ring to big ring ? Needs investigation......good cruise back home :-)
Sat, Apr 14, 2012 - 65.98 mi [Cycling] Details
65.98 mi in 03:51:20 hours at 17.11 mi/h on ICE Vortex FS. [Cycling] Vortex#35-Blackgate Saunter 100km AUDAX. My second AUDAX ride - felt harder than the 150km GOR AUDAX to be honest....the run out to Moriac was good, struggled to keep up with Rick (Musashi) and no chance keeping up with John on the M5 Carbon.... The run from Moriac back to Grovedale was fast and smooth :-) After some soup we headed back down Horseshoebend and to Ocean Grove - met Brendon from work on the road - strong Northerly so the return was hard work, the last 20km was just hard into the wind and at times dropped to 20kph :-( Met another bunch of good people !! Good tea and toasties and great pumpkin soup, not so much cake this time around, I think all the 50km riders ate everything ;-)
