11.93 mi in 02:19:00 hours at 5.15 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Kirsten's first ride in 20 years on her new Mongoose Ocho
Kirsten expressed a little interest in cycling, well I think she likes the idea of tea & cake, so been hunting around and think I have found the perfect bike, a Mongoose Sambrosa Ocho.... 8 speed Shimano Alfine hub gear - so gear changes when stationary, no deraileurs to get messed up, and looks really cool, like a fixie !! So a very nervous start on the road, lots eek & it's too fast & it's too scary....walked to the Oval and started again and did a few laps to get some confidence.....then thought we'd go a few kays......got to Torquay (4.5km) had some tea and toasted sandwich and then went another 4.5km along the esplanade, then turned back......there was some walking on the little hills and crossing roads, but Kirsten just flew ;-) She's a little achy now and has a sore butt...nothing we can't fix with some padded pants/shorts/trousers !! Might need to find an angled stem and some riser bars to help the riding position as her shoulders were aching a bit too !! Kirsten did not fall off once and we went off-road as well..... |

18.91 mi in 01:27:00 hours at 13.04 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Barwon River ride - very wet/flooded
A morning ride - 8am start - no M&M - second 'soft cock' award in 2 rides.....he's going for 100% record there...... ;-p That Scott Cyclocross bike of his must be like new as it never gets used ;-) Gusty westerly wind - good run along Waurn Ponds creek, to the new Breakwater bridge - all flooded at the old Breakwater bridge and Slim didn't want to get wet feet so we turned back to Belmont and got back onto the river there.....wet everywhere and flooded further down the track so we crossed the river and then continued (not much farther). Got coffee and scones at Barwon Edge.....then Slim peeled off at Shannon Avenue and I continued......it was very deep at Breakwater - upto my bottom bracket on a 29er, wet feet !! Headed over the new bridge - bang into a big headwind, then continued back to Waurn Ponds..... Dropped into Goldcross bike shop and may have found the ideal bike for Kirsten..... |

12.33 mi in 01:13:00 hours at 10.13 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Aireys Inlet - Bambra Rd loop
Pretty damp morning.....Slim & JP (M&M has gone all soft and floppy since the clackers were snipped and failed to turn out).....steady climb for the first 20 minutes, just a grind.....then into wet roads with lots of muddy spray......some of the tracks had gravel just dumped, not really graded or rolled into the surface and big rocks so pretty sketchy on those parts.....forgot my glasses so mud spray in the face was really bad and it was hard to see where I was riding.....the last half was ll down hill so that was good, very muddy at the end !! Good coffee at Airey's Inlet !! |

36.18 mi in 01:56:00 hours at 18.71 mi/h on Catbike Musashi. [Cycling] Musashi#17 - the return of the Moose
It's been a while since the Moose was last out on the road......the weather has been sh!te for road riding but I have a week off work and it's sunny but cold.....the Musashi has had some bling thrown at it !! The RD was a SRAM Rival and was OK but nothing special, so I had decided to had a new PG1070 cassette 11 - 36 to give better gearing spread and for that you need a long cage RD....thank heavens for Evans....a SRAM X0 in red for $150 - bargain.....then on advice from an MTBer at work I upgrade the jockey wheels to Token ceramic ones as well......finished putting everything together yesterday and on the stand it shifted beautifully.....the FD was never ever able to get the granny ring (thanks FF !!) so I made up a little slither of alu and bonded it to the FD cage, bingo !! I can now get all 3 rings !! I also got a Paul's thumby kit for my TT500 shifters for just the FD, works a treat !! The ride was nice and generally quiet, I am always apprehensive getting on the Moose after not having ridden it for a while, it's a bit of a love-hate thing.......once on it and relaxed it's awesome but I get a little stressed thinking about going out on it....anyway had some good speed in quite blustery winds (upto 30kph according to BoM).....so a Vmax of 56kph is good and a moving average of 30kph is good.....I noticed that the new cassette gear spacing is ok,much bigger gaps than before which pushed up my average cadence.....? |
