30.86 mi in 01:55:00 hours at 16.10 mi/h on Catbike Musashi. [Cycling] Musashi#18 - Moriac loop via the Ugly Sisters....
A Sunday morning ride with Slim & JP, another no-show from M&M.....soft cock award 3 times now !! 0C according to the car, and it felt like it !! No warm up and straight into those big hills.....it's been over 3 weeks since a decent road ride so really my legs felt so heavy.....heart banging away at 175bpm...hard to get the cold air into your lungs, felt a bit wheezy !! After a Hot Chocolate at Moriac, was flying along, amazing what a few degrees of temperature can do and warmed up legs !! Now off to the Youies to ride the MTB !! |

9.05 mi in 01:11:00 hours at 7.65 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Ironbark Reserve - JP
A very wet day, Ash popped over, but the rain persisted and Ash went home, Slim did not show, JP was around late - rain stopped for a while so off we went.....great run to Bells and Southside, up the steps......then the rain came....riding up Southside valley felt like North Yorkshire moors or Brecon Beacons.....cold, wet, weather closing in, but great fun.....went down Jarosite Mine Track which was good and slippy, then at the bottom we hit the Steps, stream running down...JP got up 2/3 the way, I saw sense and walked it, once we got 90% the way up the going was good so we continued......I showed JP where the car park was and then we turned back.....more rain but great fun and fast on the wise open puddles thru Ironbark Reserve !! Quick squirt on the road upto Bells then the track back home......very very wet.....5 minutes after getting back the heavens opened and it rained for the rest of the day....excellent sausage muffins and brown sauce and Andisha's cake and a big mug of tea......the hot shower was nice !! |

11.93 mi in 02:19:00 hours at 5.15 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Kirsten's first ride in 20 years on her new Mongoose Ocho
Kirsten expressed a little interest in cycling, well I think she likes the idea of tea & cake, so been hunting around and think I have found the perfect bike, a Mongoose Sambrosa Ocho.... 8 speed Shimano Alfine hub gear - so gear changes when stationary, no deraileurs to get messed up, and looks really cool, like a fixie !! So a very nervous start on the road, lots eek & it's too fast & it's too scary....walked to the Oval and started again and did a few laps to get some confidence.....then thought we'd go a few kays......got to Torquay (4.5km) had some tea and toasted sandwich and then went another 4.5km along the esplanade, then turned back......there was some walking on the little hills and crossing roads, but Kirsten just flew ;-) She's a little achy now and has a sore butt...nothing we can't fix with some padded pants/shorts/trousers !! Might need to find an angled stem and some riser bars to help the riding position as her shoulders were aching a bit too !! Kirsten did not fall off once and we went off-road as well..... |

18.91 mi in 01:27:00 hours at 13.04 mi/h on Scott Spark Team 29 FS. [Cycling] Scott - Barwon River ride - very wet/flooded
A morning ride - 8am start - no M&M - second 'soft cock' award in 2 rides.....he's going for 100% record there...... ;-p That Scott Cyclocross bike of his must be like new as it never gets used ;-) Gusty westerly wind - good run along Waurn Ponds creek, to the new Breakwater bridge - all flooded at the old Breakwater bridge and Slim didn't want to get wet feet so we turned back to Belmont and got back onto the river there.....wet everywhere and flooded further down the track so we crossed the river and then continued (not much farther). Got coffee and scones at Barwon Edge.....then Slim peeled off at Shannon Avenue and I continued......it was very deep at Breakwater - upto my bottom bracket on a 29er, wet feet !! Headed over the new bridge - bang into a big headwind, then continued back to Waurn Ponds..... Dropped into Goldcross bike shop and may have found the ideal bike for Kirsten..... |
