[Ciclismo] 7.00a .m start , off along to the Derwent railway path. raining from the start , when it wasn't raining it was wetting drizzle , nice ! rode up Derwent railway to Ebchester , then bombed down into Ebchester . Dropped down over the river and started the long , not steep but tiring Whittonstall climb. Climbing into the mist . contoured around hills to Kiln Pitt hill . Crossed the A68 and on towards Slaley . Raining again . Turned left at Minster Acres and took the road around Derwent Reservoir . dull, wet and not very nice morning. When got over to South side of reservoir , turned left before Blanchland. Then the steep slow climb up to the top of Stanhope Common . At the top of there speeds pick up , even though it feels up hill the winds tend to hug the hillside after lifting up form the valelt below carrying you along with them . Took the road over the top of the moors , felt good going 40mph after climbing at 5mph for ages . rejoined the Waskerley way at Smiddyshaw . Rode with a chap for a littel while before pushing for home . Yes it started raining heavy again - get in ! . just about got to the start of the Derwent railway and it lashed down , and hailstones , just pushed on through it as was going to get soaked from the puddles anyway . ouch oooww , ouch the hailstones hurt oyur face . then the rain just kept coming after the hail stopped . Soaked through , mud everywhere , nice !
everything was soaked and you start to feel very cold very quickly . still 15 miles to go , but eventually home , bath , shoes in big bucket of soapy water and washed bike . good ride , sooo much different to riding the same route on a nice dry warmer day. |

knee deep and that's on a mountain bike with big knobblies , wet was not the word for it.
Tried to keep bike clean by by passing the muddy bit between Blaydon and Ryton , but still hacky and soaking. |
