Sun, Aug 5, 2012 - 27.96 mi [Cycling]
27.96 mi on Colnago CLX 3.0. [Cycling] Lambo tried to fire me up to chase the cash at Vets this morning, but I resisted and headed inland to meet the Maitland peloton of 8 at Largs pub for a 7.15 start. We certainly get it much easier on the coast during winter, as a light frost greeted us across the river flats. The bunch set off at a spritely pace for Morpeth, Hinton, Wallalong, then up towards the rolling hills of Martins Creek, back through Butterwick, Woodville & Bolwarra, with coffee at Lorn. Great morning, great coffee and great company. Regrettably Strava did not capture any stats as my battery was completely dead.
Sat, Aug 4, 2012 - 36.66 mi [Cycling]
36.66 mi on Colnago CLX 3.0. [Cycling] Pre-dawn start to meet the Maitland gruppetto at Hexham, hot lap to Nobbys, return to Hexham for a few extra KM's, then home ready for kids sport.
Sat, Jul 28, 2012 - 24.85 mi [Cycling]
24.85 mi on Colnago CLX 3.0. [Cycling] A cold & chilly pre-dawn start to meet the Maitland gruppetto at Hexham, where I was greeted by Colnago grand master Dave & others. Only 40 km's covered for the morning but good to have a hit-out without rain.
Sun, Jul 8, 2012 - 50.95 mi [Cycling]
50.95 mi on Colnago CLX 3.0. [Cycling] Following a sensation evening of merriment at Club Scum, I arose ready to meet Lambo for a tour of my ancestral homeland, however an acute attack of massive man-flu claimed RG overnight so I set off solo. The route was basically the Hadleys ride in reverse, Maitland, coffee at Lorn, then Largs, Hinton, Nelsons Plains, Terrace via Richardson Road and home. It was a little fresh to start but a glorious day emerged. Great to finally stretch the legs over a longer distance in sunny weather.
Sat, May 12, 2012 - 24.85 mi [Cycling]
24.85 mi on Colnago CLX 3.0. [Cycling] The Col had its first service during the week and was feeling like an unbrideled Italian thoroughbred as I headed out the door to Hexham at 5.40am for the second consecutive Saturday to test myself against the Maitland bunch again. My first sign of trouble was discovering at Hexham I'd left my tool kit at home, no problem I won't get a flat today, WRONG. The peloton was in top gear along the straight past Hexham Maccas when the bunch split to miss a lump of timber lying in the bike lane. A call of "object" saw me face to face with said object and no option other than to attempt a bunny hop. The front wheel made it over but the back wheel took the full force of impact resulting in a nice old pinch flat. A call-out to Brother-of-Bunter in the bunch rendered assistance. First replacement tube had a hole, 2nd tube was OK, but the rear tail light had also suffered brain damage from the impact. Finally underway at pace to make up for lost time, managed to hang with them until past the Crown Plaza, but lost touch in the brewery sprint. Rode back with the bunch until Mayfield and then cracked off for home, although the bike didn't really feel right. Upon examination at Bunter Team HQ the back rim has sustained a buckle. Although disappointed maybe this is an excuse for a set of Dura Ace wheels, but this is yet to be put to the Director Sportif (not confident about the outcome). A real bummer of a morning.
