Replaced chain and cassette. Needs rear rim replaced. Tire is through top layer of rubber, most the way around. Replaced the sealed bearing in one of the jockey wheels.

Replaced the Michelin Dynamic Sport rear tire with a Duro Stinger. The Michelin was a $10 Chinese tire that gave a decent 3,600 miles of service and was changed due to cuts, as it was not yet worn to the cords. It surprised me.

One would think that you'd get more than 500 miles out of a chain, especially on a road bike. Well, I guess I did, 22 miles more in fact. Pretty pathetic. Granted, I'm using a standard chain gauge to check it, as inaccurate as those are, but it still should have lasted much longer. I replaced it with another KMC Z72, which I had on the shelf, just to use it up. We'll see if this one does any better.

After replacing the chain yesterday, the drivetrain became quite "crunchy" when under load, especially climbing hills. The cassette didn't look too bad, and changing it had little effect. I swapped out one of the derailleur jockeys, which was heavily worn, but it had no effect, as expected. I then swapped out the 39t chainring, which I had already flipped, and which was now heavily worn on both sides. That did the ticket. I didn't realize that a worn chainring could make that much difference. Now it's smooth as butter.

Replaced chain with KMC Z72. Old chain was just at 1.0 on the Park tool, but only 1/32" on a ruler so it may still have been useable, but I wanted to see if I could nurse the Suntour cassette longer, as well as to get a sense of the durability of these cheap chains.

Overhauled rear hub (didn't need it), cleaned drive train. Chain is at .75 wear already. Apparently, I didn't record when I switched the wheel to Suntour cassette. It was probably about 1,000 miles ago or so.

Replaced freewheel with new Suntour (Shimano spacing) and chain (HG73), rear derailleur cable, and front brake pads. Chain was far beyond worn out, but I wanted to wait until mud season was over before changing it.

Replaced Pasella rear tire with a Michelin Dynamic Sport. The Pasella was at least 45 gr lighter and with a much more flexible sidewall. It held up well, even though I booted it, and it was at that spot where the tread wore through to the cord. The Pasella lasted just shy of 3k miles. Pretty darned good.

Cleaned drivetrain and replaced broken rear axle. Replaced rear caliper with a generic dual-pivot one that actually slows the bike down.

Rebuilt front hub. It needed it.

Replaced Schwalbe Stelvio rear tire. I had patched it from the inside a while ago, due to a large cut. The tread wore through to the casing at this location, but it stayed a dependable, nice riding tire to the end. Replaced with a 28mm standard Pasella.

Replaced chain & freewheel with new. Flipped inner C-ring and replaced outer with good used. Tacx jockey wheels are pretty well shot already. Replaced rear hub axle and regreased bearings.

The evolution of the Atala Sport, which was itself an evolution of a couple of different previous mid-range Bianchis. The sports commuter saga continues!
