Gave up on the compact crank and installed an aluminum Chorus double with a 39-52 and the correct front derailleur. Good riddance to compact cranks.

Just a note that the bike, complete with DA 7700 series 9-spd, was $3300 in 1998.

Installed a used FSA carbon compact crankset with new Sinz ISIS BB. Not sure if this is a good plan, as I haven't liked compact gearing in the past, but I wanted to run 12-23 cassettes and a 39x23 is just not low enough for the climbs I want to do with this bike. The crankset turned out to be less than a good buy, as the BB that arrived with it was rough.
