Sat, Jul 29, 2017 - 54.10 mi [Cycling] Details
54.10 mi in 03:37:00 hours at 14.96 mi/h on Waterford Gunnar Crosshairs. [Cycling] A reprise of the North Creek-Saratoga ride, taking a different route this time. We were the first ones to take a bike on the train from Saratoga back in 2011, and we hope not among the last, though the RR is not doing well. The SNCRR folks were very cooperative and friendly and the trip up didn't drag at all. Instead of taking the flatter route back along the river, we took the hillier inland route. Avoiding 9N south of Luzerne was a good idea and the roads were quite enjoyable, with smooth asphalt and low traffic. Weather was perfect, with a nice little tailwind most of the way. A highly recommended ride. (2)

47.69 mi in 02:55:28 hours at 16.31 mi/h on Waterford Gunnar Crosshairs. [Cycling] 80 degrees. Rode into town to do some errands. Ran across Phil S. at the end of Weed Rd and chatted up while taking a roundabout on dirt to the hardware store. Good thing I was on wide tires, which I selected when the grader went by just before I was to leave. (11)

Sat, Jun 10, 2017 - 127.10 mi [Cycling] Details
127.10 mi in 08:55:00 hours at 14.25 mi/h on Waterford Gunnar Crosshairs. [Cycling] 60, 75 degrees. Southern Vermont ride to scope out the road conditions for the 100/200. Got a bit later start than planned and with a decent headwind, modified the route several times. Gravel road through Somerset was a joy, but the one that goes around the back side of Stratton Mtn. proved to be rugged mountain bike material. I went around on the paved road and called Jeanne when I got a signal to find that my car had been towed in Ludlow, making it quite an expensive ride. In my defense, the parking ban was a change that had been made the day before, due to construction, and the notice was poorly located. Took the most direct route from Stratton to Ludlow to sort things out. (32)

Cleaned drivetrain and replaced chain. Got 1800 miles out of the KMC, which isn't too bad, but it's nothing to brag about, either. Think I'll steer clear of them in the future. The upper jockey wheel bearing is already starting to go in the same mileage.

Broke a spoke nipple climbing the hill, so decided to take advantage of the weekend to rebuild the rear wheel using brass nipples. Repacked the hubs. Left rear cone is starting to pit, due to some water getting in there. Rebuild the rear der, as the B-spring had slipped. Cleaned drivetrain and found chain is still in real good shape, as it should be with only 500 miles on it. Forgot to note that I changed the front tire for an ancient, but unridden Michelin HiLite Tour about 160 miles ago, along with a Pasela 35C.

Replaced Shimano HG53 chain with KMC X9 and an almost new Ultegra 12-27 cassette. Also replaced upper jockey wheel with an aluminum sealed bearing unit.

Pulled Veloce BB and replaced it with Miche unit that gave me trouble moving in the past, hoping that would solve the clicking. It didn't, making me think it must be the spokes on the rt side of the rr wheel/
